Hiroko Yao
Description
Born in 1959, currently residing in Fukuoka, Japan
She began learning piano in early childhood.
During her student years, she enjoyed vocal music, including chorus and gospel singing.
Around 2014, she started playing the chromatic harmonica. In 2016, she began studying under Nobuo Tokunaga, one of Japan’s leading pioneers of the instrument, and continues her musical journey to this day.

2018 – 2nd Prize (Solo, Jazz & Pops Division) and 1st Prize (Duo) at the FIH Harmonica Contest
2022 – 1st Prize (Senior Solo Division), Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival
2024 – 1st Prize (Senior Solo Division) and 1st Prize (Trio), Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival
2025 – 1st Prize (Senior Duo Division), Seoul International Harmonica Festival
